Empowering Educators
A scenario-based eLearning designed to help new teachers successfully navigate parent-teacher conferences.
Responsibilities: Action Mapping, Storyboarding, Prototyping, Development, Visual Design, eLearning development
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Figma, Canva, Google Docs, Miro
Problem & Solution
Problem: Parent-teacher conferences can often be challenging for both teachers and parents alike. Teachers may find it difficult to effectively communicate with parents, address concerns, and provide meaningful updates on their child's progress.
Solution: With first-hand experience as an educator, I’m aware that many teachers struggle with communication strategies, preparation and planning, and building positive relationships. This inspired me to create a scenario-based eLearning experience that allows teachers to practice conducting a successful parent-teacher conference.
My Process
Below you will see how I used the ADDIE Model to develop this eLearning experience.
Action Map
On the left, you’ll see the action map that I created based on research and working with subject matter experts. This action map outlines four ways that teachers can ensure that they have a successful parent-teacher conference:
Being welcoming
Being prepared
Using the “Good-Bad-Good” Method
Having an open line of communication
Text-Based Storyboards
Slide from text-based storyboard
Once completing the action map, I headed to storyboarding. These text-based storyboards allowed me to think about the user’s journey throughout this learning experience. With the course’s objective in mind, I developed questions and answers that would put the learner in the mind of a teacher conducting their first parent-teacher conference. Taking this scenario-based approach keeps the user engaged and also provides them with positive and negative feedback based on their choices.
Visual Mockups
During this phase, I got to use my UI design experience and design a beautiful and engaging training. I was able to bring together a color scheme that was visually appealing and aesthetically pleasing. To the right, you’ll see my style guide where you can view my design choices for the button states and various fonts seen throughout the course. I created the style guide, and my high-fidelity prototype using Figma.

Interactive Prototype
To create the Interactive Prototype, I brought my ideas from Figma and began developing the project in Storyline 360. The prototype consisted of the:
Title Screen
Scenario Introduction
Mentor Introduction
First question + correct/incorrect answer
Full Development
Fully developing this course in Articulate Storyline allowed me to grow as an instructional designer, and become proficient using this authoring tool. By following the ADDIE model, I was able to create a course that I’m proud of, and I hope you enjoy it as well!
